RIMUTAKA HILL ROAD.

DAMAGE BY SLIP. s Per Press Association. CARTERTON, Aug. 23. _ The damage on the Rimutaka Hill Road is greater than was at first anticipated. Considerable quantity of overhanging soil and rock has yet to be dislodged before the slip can be shifted. The roadway on the Featherston side of the'first concrete bridge has been undermined by the river and very dangerously cracked, necessitating the fence line being shifted back and a new track cut. The foreman in charge of the Public Works gang states that it is impossible for the road to be opened for traffic before Monday, if then. No traffic whatever is allowed on the hills.
