DOWN THE LINE.
(From Our Own Correspondent). OTAKI, Aug. 22. A meeting of the Otaki State School Committee was presided over by Mr Brandon. A letter was received from Miss Ellis stating that she would shortly be leaving Otaki, having accepted a position as infant mistress at Paekakariki. It was decided to accept the resignation with regret and to placo on record the valuable services given by Miss Ellis. The chairman extended a warm welcome to Mr and Mrs Dempsey and family who were invited to be present to meet the committee and their wives, and expressed a hope that their stay in Otaki would be very pleasant. Mr Dempsey, in reply, thanked all for the cordial welcome which he and Mrs Dempsey fully appreciated. It .was very gratifying to meet the committee and their wives and to be accorded such a hearty welcome. He believed there was a deal lof work ahead but ho assured all that he would do his best. Mrs Brandon extended a hearty welcome to Mrs Dempsey, the latter suitably replying, stating that the reception had alroady made her feel at home. Supper was then dispensed by the ladies, and a hearty vote of thanks accorded to Mr and Mrs Barlow for providing the repast..
