COTTON DISPUTE
EMPLOYERS’ CLAIM UPHELD. COMPROMISE EFFECTED. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright). (Australian Press Association—United Service). Received August 23, 1.5 p.m. LONDON, Aug. 22. The Cotton Arbitration Court upheld the employers’ claim for a reduction of 12} per cent in wages. The reduction will take effect from the second week in September. Later reports show that the court also approved of a reduction of 12} per cent, in the list of prices, which is equivalent to 6.49 per cent, of the current earnings. The award, therefore, is a compromise, the employers receiving exactly half of what they demanded.
