“RINGING-IN” CASE.

SENTENCE OF IMPRISONMENT. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 22. At the Supreme Court, Samuel Bates and Leslie Holland, for “ring-ing-in” the trotter Bruce as Imperial Thorpe, were sentenced to a year’s hard labour hy Mr Justice Adams, The Crown Prosecutor said that the prisoners had committed an impudent swindle. His Honour said that the men had worked with some dishonest minds to commit a fraud in which there was the possibility of considerable profit to themselves. Their hopes were disappointed, but that did not affect the nature and quality of their act. The sentence must be substantial.
