RUGBY FOOTBALL
BATTLE FOR CHAMPIONS’rHP.
GAMES OF IMPORTANCE.
By reason of the important bearing they will have on the senior inter-clu b championship, to-morrow’s games will be followed with increased interest by Rugby enthusiasts. The draw has required Old Boys to journey to Fending to meet the yellow and blacks in what will virtually amount to the final, for a - victory to the Palmerston : North team will give them the season’s honours, but should Feilding prove capable of carrying the day these two competing sides will be left on even terms with one match to play to conclude the round. No doubt many local supporters of the game will make the trip to Johnston Park, although there is every probability that an attractive fixture will be offering them at home, for the improving Athletic side are due to oppose Feilding Old Boys. Woodville enthusiasts will likewise be offered an attraction for their representatives will be at home to Kia Toa. While present indications point to the double blues emerging with the laurels. Woodville might well produce something like their old form. THE TEAMS. A meeting of the management committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union was held to-night. Mr A. C. Kit-to (acting chairman) presided. Several re-admisisons to the Rugby Union code were approved. The Maori Advisory Board wrote requesting that the major unions should lie asked to release Maori players if ■ selected to take part in the match, Taiihauauru v. Tairawhiti for the Prince iof Wales Gup match to be played on September 11 at Wellington. The players concerned included T. Parata, W. Parata, D. Tatana, and Taylor (Manawhenua); J. Mill, F. Fuller, A. V. Jury, J. Walker, Whaanga and Himona (Wairarapa). It was decided to reply that the unions concerned would be recommended to release the players mentioned, if possible. The Bay of Plenty Union 'advised that, if a match was arranged at Rotorua between the British team and the Bay of Plenty, the latter union was prepared to allow the New Zealand Union the whole of the gate receipts, less the cost of assembling, advertising and ground charges. The Otago Union wrote formally asking that its match against Wairarapa on September 7 should be regarded as a ltanfurly Shield match. It was decided to inform the Waikato Union that, as i.t owed Wairarapa a visit, its match with that union on September 14 could only be regarded as a challenge match for the Ranfurlv Shield, and not as a special challenge match, which means that the Waikato team will have to pay its own expenses.
