JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOLS.

NO EXTENSION INDICATED. “Although I have stated a change in our educational system will be brought about, I have not indicated that there is to be an extension of the junior high school system,” said the Minister of Education, Hon. H. Atmore, in a letter forwarded to the Taranaki Education Board. .He was acknowledging a resolution urging the supply of information regarding the working of the existing junior high schools in New Zealand before any further extension of the system was made. “As a matter of fact,” -continued Mr Atmore, “the Parliamentary education committee that has been set up will take evidence from, the various interested parties in regard to the pro.posed policy, and when the time arrives boards, along-with others, will be afforded ample opportunity of expressing their views on the subject.” It was pointed out that the positions of boards in relation to junior high schools differed considerably. Mr P. J. White said that the position of the Wellington board was very different from that of the Taranaki board. Mr Smith suggested that there should be a spokesman for the cities and one for the other districts. On his proposal it was decided to ask the Education Boards’ Association executive to call a meeting to appoint suitable representatives to appear before the Parliamentary committee.
