CANADA’S TRADE.

EFFECT OF AMERICAN TARIFF.

(Australian Press Association). VANCOUVER, June 28. Interviewed to-day on his return from Parliament, Air A. YV. Neill declared that the subsidy of £BO,OOO to ships carrying lumber to Australia was of great importance to British Columbia, and he hoped that it would help develop the market and make up those which Canada might lose in the United States under the new tariff. Mr Neill thought that if the tariff proved as was now supposed Canada should endeavour by tariffs and other preferences to increase her trade with Britain and the other parts of the Empire. Air Neill added: “Let the United States realise that if she refuses to buy from Canada it is natural that she will divert more of her purchases to the nations which trado with her.”
