BREACHES OF BY-LAWS

PENALTIES FOR OFFENCES

Penalties were inflicted by Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., at the Court this morning, on a number of offenders for breaches of the by-laws. For riding cycles at night without a light, fines of 10s, with 3s costs, were imposed on S. Kingsbcer and A. J. Beattie. A penalty of 10s ; with 17s costs, was inflicted on Rangi Cribb for riding a motor cycle at night in Cuba Street without a tail-light on the machine. Failure to possess drivers’ licenses cost Ambrose C. Hurdsfield 10s, with 10s costs, and Ronald Roy Martin, who admitted the offence, 5s with 10s costs. For riding a motor cycle with two persons on the pillion scat, 11. C. Foot was fined 10s, with Ilfs costs. No appearance was made by Vivian Coward, who was charged with cutting a traffic dome and speeding in the Square. A penalty of £l, with 10s costs, was imposed on the first charge, and £2, with 10s costs on the second. Fines of 10s, with 10s costs, were imposed on J. Heaphy, J. Craig and C. Harris for riding cycles on the footpath in Campbell Street. William Ashby was charged with having no light or rear reflector on his bicycle. He was fined 10s with 10s costs for the first offence and ss, with 10s costs, for the second. Cecil Stephenson pleaded guilty to charges of having no motor cycle driver’s license and of having an inefficient silencer on his machine. He was fined 10s, with 10s costs, for the first offence and £2, with 10s costs, for the second.
