CLOSING OF LIQUOR BOOTH.

WHEN LAST RACE STARTS?

SERGEANT’S APPLICATION FAILS.

HAWERA, June 8. The question whether the liquor booth on the Hawera racecourse should be closed when the last race started was raised at a. meeting of tho Patea Licensing Bench. Sergeant Henry said the booth should have been closed when the last race was started. When it was not so closed ho was obliged to wait on the course till the booth closed, instead of watching the motor traffic. Mr G. H. Ryan spoke in support of the booth keeping open. Mr Salmon, S.M., asked why the extra quarter-hour was wanted. Mr Ryan replied that it was for the convenience of the racing public. The sergeant said he wanted it closed just for tho sergeant’s own convenience. The Bench decided that the question was one for consideration upon each application.
