ACTS IN NEW YORK. The job of being New York’s Mayor has been getting steadily tougher, with the result that Jimmy Walker built quite a reputation for always being late at such functions as cornerstone laying, tree-planting and firstball throwing. At last, however, along came the robot man, John Televox, with a proposal that lie would substitute for the Mayor on these occasions. It was a complete success the other day, when Mr Walker, seeking to avoid a trip to Staten Island, ’phoned Televox to open the Seaside Hospital for Children. Tele/ox answered, the ’phone, pulled aside the entrance flag and acknowledged the hearty applause. Overcome by the cheers, however, lie fell over sideways and the repair man hastily assisted him to regain his equilibrium..
