THOUSANDS INVOLVED. ACCOUNTS OF nlw. MUNICIPAL COUNCIL. Received May 28, 9.45 a.m. SYDNEY, May 28. Following investigations by the Local Government Department and the police of the financial affairs of the Tenterfield Municipal Council, a series of defalcations extending over seven years, involving between £15,000 and £20,000, have been revealed. The manipulation of bogus accounts, which the council passed in good faith, resulted in the council being placed in financial difficulties. The audit revealed a series of audacious thefts.
