WOODVILLE, May 28.

Hon. E. A. Ransom wm a visitor to Wciodville on Saturday when he officiated at the presentation of prizes at the Gun Club shoot. Mr R. Pattiron has been re-elected chairman of the Kumeroa branch of the Farmers’ Union. Miss G. White (Auckland) has been spending a few days’ holiday with friends iu this district. Miss B. Ponsonby has returned to Blenheim. . . .

Miss E. Redwood, who has been visiting relations in Woodville, returned to Feeding yesterday. * CLAY BIRD CHAMPIONSHIP.

The Hawke’s Bay provincial clay bird championship and a £SO open handicap match were held in Woodvillo on Saturday, shooters from Auckland, Taihape, Wanganui, Palmerston North, Masterton, Dannevirke, Hutuma, Otane, Pukehou, Hastings and Napier competing. Shooting conditions were not at all good, and a steady rain set in about midday, making the shooters’ task even more difficult than before. The patron of the Woodville Gun Club, Mr W. H. Nelson, in welcoming the visiting shooters, hoped that they would all enjoy themselves, retain a lasting memory of tho shoot, and that they would all attend again at future matches. The £SO open match was shot off first and resulted in the first, second and Hhird prize money being divided between R. G. Smith (Woodville), A. W. Thomson (Palmerston North) and G. E. Anderson (Taihape), who each shot 20 birds. Fourth prize money was divided between W. Elliot (Napier), E. Groome (Napier), J. Mills (Hastings) and C. Mackie (Woodville) each with 19 birds.

In the Hawke’s Bay championship -event J. Mills (Hastings) and E. Sergeant (Dannevirke) tied with 16 birds, J. Mills winning on his 13th bird in the shoot off.

At the conclusion of the shooting Hon. E. A. Ransom (Minister of Public Works) presented the prizes won during the day, complimenting the winners on their performances under the rather trying condition. Results were as follow:

Parker (Napier) 17yds, 17; D. McLachlan (Masterton) 17yds, 17; J. A. Cripps (Masterton) 13yds, 17; J. Donnely (Auckland), 12 yds, 17; B. K. Thomson (Palmerston North) 12vds, 16; F. Miller (Masterton) 13yds, 16; H. Best (Palmerston North) 13 yds, 16. Hawke’s Bay Championship (21 birds off 18yds).—J. A. Cripps (Masterton) 17, D. McLachlan (Masterton) 17, equal, 1; E. Sergeant (Dannevirke) 16, J. Mills (Hastings) 16, A. W. Thomson (Palmerston North) 16, equal 3. J. A. Cripps and D. McLachlan, who were not eligible for the championship, divided the money in a sweepstake' run in conjunction with the event.
