DEPORTATION ORDER.

NOT OBEYED BY NEGRO,

Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, May 27. Robert William Lanier, the young American negro who came to hiew Zealand in an endeavour to join Byrd s Antarctic Expedition ; and was subsequently acquitted in the Supreme Court on a charge of stabbing the boatswain, was to have been deported by the steamer Golden Cross to-day. However, it was later reported that he had failed to sail on the steamer. The Customs Depaitment is inquiring into the matter. The Golden Cross, which sailed for Honolulu at 4.30 this afternoon, returned to port at 10.25 to-night. The reason given was that the vessel encountered a heavy sea and thick weather, with consequent difficulty in picking up the harbour lights.
