GROWTH OF AERONAUTICS.

DEMAND FOR FIRST-CLASS PILOTS. MANY OPPORTUNITIES. Aeronautics is no more a golden road to renown and wealth than any other special industry, yet it is\ likely that for some time to come there will be an unfilled demand for first class pilots at salaries exceeding those available to young men in. analogous lines of work. T This is tlie view of Major Ernest L. Jones, editor of the Domestic Air News of the aeronautics branch of the United States Department of Commerce. ,It is his answer to the request of a high school for a discussion of the opportunities open to young men in the new profession of aeronautics. “It is most probable that tor many years to come there will be an unfilled demand for pilots and perhajrs navigators, in the exceptional class, said Major Jones. He also pointed out that there were opportunities for young men. in other phases of aeronautics beside the occupations concerned in tlie piloting and navigation of airplanes, “The application of the airplane and the airship to transportation brings in special phases of radio, illumination, power plant, engineering, airport construction, advertising and profit,” he pointed out. “There must be aeronautical engineers for the design of airplanes and airships, airplane and engine mechanics, metal workers, painters, major and minor executives of every kind, and members of allied trades whose products of experience enter into the construction and operation of aircraft.” Among the advantages of the profession, Major Jones listed the financial rewards which are possible, in addition to tlie lure of pionering. .He declared that there were few, if any, disadvantages to be found in tlie occupations open in the new field of transportation.
