AERIAL MANOEUVRES.
THRILLING DEMONSTRATION. AUCKLAND PAGEANT TO BE • HEI/D. *■•} (By Telegraph—Special io Standard). AUCKLAND, April 11. A programme of aerial manoeuvres, which should prove the most thrilling demonstration vet seen in the Dominion has been prepared for the pageant to be held on the Auckland Aero Club s aerodrome at Mangere on April A). Eight machines are already assured, and several pilots who performed with particular distinction in the war will compete. The gathering will be the first of its kind organised by the Flying Clubs of the Dominion and should demonstrate the very healthy progress which the Aucklalid organisation has made during blit a few weeks of active work. Five events'have been chosen.' The pageant will open with a “fly past” of all the machines. A landing competition will then be held. The competitors will ascend to an altitude of 2000 feet and then glide to a landing within a marked circle. An aviator’s ideal in this class of contest is to alight like a feather —a performance which in its most graceful accomplishment is termed “an angel’s kisS.” An aerial Derby will be held oyer two laps Of 12 miles, the first prize being a cup. Five machines piloted by members of the Auckland Aero Club will give an exhibition of formation flying. The final event will be the bombing of an ammunition dump. New Zealand engineers will co-operate in this, and two “home” machines will lead an attack against the bombing machines.
