SURGICAL FEATS
REMARKABLE CASES. OPERATIONS FOR TRACHEOTOMY ARTISAN’S PRESENCE OF MIND. (United Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Australian Press Association.) Received April 11, 11.5 a.m. LONDON, April 10. Two remarkable cases of tracheotomy are reported almost simultaneously from the Continent. A man named Hansen, an artisan, of Copenhagen, who was choking with a piece of crust in the throat, had the presence of mind to make a pocket knife incision in his throat, which enabled him to breathe until a surgeon removed the obstacle. The other case. is reported from Budapest. Professors Balint and Pollachek—the latter is a noted throat specialist—were conversing, when Professor Balint took a fit, under which- he was suffocating. Professor Pollachek made an incision in the throat with a penknife and saved Professor Balint’s life.
