ITALY AND BULGARIA.
ROYAL MARRIAGE ABANDONED. RELIGIOUS DIFFERENCE. 1 (Australian Press Association), Received April 9, 8.50 a.m. LONDON, April 8. The abandonment of the proposed marriage between Boris 111. and Princess Giovanna of Italy has caused disappointment in Sofia. The Pope was willing to sanction the union if Princess Giovanna remained a Catholic, and Signor Mussolini suggested that an heir to the Bulgarian Throne be baptised in the Orthodox Greek Church provided that any other children were brought up Catholics.
Boris, however, refused to agree to the latter stipulation, so the Vatican declined to sanction the marriage.
