RONGOTEA ACCIDENT

CARS IN COLLISION. ONE PASSENGER INJURED. An accident occurred at Rongotea yesterday, wlien two cars collided, ai one passenger was injured. 1 A heavy sedan car* driven by Mrs Macfarlane, was travelling along Hie Foxton-Sandou Road, and another car was proceeding from Palmerston North to the beach. The latter had reached mid-way position on the Foxton-ban-don Road intersection when it was struck. The indentation on the body indicated that the other car met it with an almost complete liead-011 impact. The glass of‘ the back portion of the car was completely smashed, and' when it finally came to a standstill after rolling over, the head of a young man, the occupant of the back seat, was protruding from the aperture where the rear window had been. He was found to be suffering from severe cuts, .and was in consequence removed immediately to Palmerston North for treatment. .Mrs Macfarlane’s car was severely damaged. The bumper was completely severed, the steering gear, destroyed, and the left fore lug supporting the engine in the chassis was broken by the impact of the collision. Mrs Macfarlane remarked that she had been driving the car . for four years and had delayed Insuring it. The car, therefore, was without insurance cover at the time of the accident.
