Beards have acquired a cash value. A London newspaper reporter found 20 beard-owners, all young men, travelling by train to the film studies at Elstree, Hertfordshire, a few weeks ago. All had grown beards as a livelihood. All styles are wanted on'the films to-day, and all styles are being worn to answer this demand. The scientist’s beard is the most valuable to would-be film actors. Every filmland ship discharges a scientist or two when it puts down_ its passengers; every film hall has scientists among its dancers; and, of course, beards are highly necessary in laboratory or plothatching scenes. Many retired professional men, it is stated, are eking out their pensions by growing beards.
