GOOD FRIDAY.

SERVICES IN THE CHURCHES. Taking as liis text, “We. Preach Christ Crucified,” Rev. J. Ernest Parsons addressed a large congregation at St. Paul’s Methodist Church yesterday morning. Having 'asked why was the Cross central in all gospel preaching, the preacher answered that it revealed at once both the mind and heart of God. The constant temptation that assailed man was to put. the emphasis on the wrong things in life. Jesus rebuked Peter, saying: “Thou thinkest like a man and not like God.” In the Cross we saw God thinking. The emphasis was on the spiritual rather than the matter. It revealed the will of God to overthrow the power that misled men to imagine the natural as more important than the spiritual. It showed the natural already defeated. The Cross also revealed the heart of God. It said, God thinks. It also said and said supremely, God loves. Rev. J. D. McArthur was the preacher at the Cuba Street Methodist Church last evening, taking for his subject, “A Grave in a Garden.” Seasonal hymns were sung by the congregation, while Mr J. Perrin contributed the solo, “Calvary.” The offertory will go to the Foreign Missions Fund. Special services were held at All Saints’ Church yesterday, the evening service concluding with the rendering of Stainer’s Crucifixion. The soloists were Rev. F. M. Kempthorne (Ashhurst) and Mr W. Moxon. Rev. H. S. Kenny was the preacher.
