FILLING A VACANCY. BISHOP’S ACTION DISAPPROVED. - •' i ■ HAMILTON, March 2. Bishop Cherrington has issued a writ authorising the election, of a synodsman to represent St. Peter’s Cathedral parish to fill the vacancy caused by the death of the late Mr 0. R. Farrar, though it was not intended to fill the vacancy until the general election of synodsmen in April. The action of the Bishop has . been received with disapproval by a section of the parishioners, and a meeting of representatives of St. Peter’s chapter and the Claudelands, Hamilton East and Gordonton Church committees was held to select a candidate to oppose the bishop’s policy. The meeting unanimously resolved to nominate Air H. M. Hammond, of Claudelands, and a committee was appointed to support Mr Hammond’s candidature.
