DEPUTATION TO PREMIER.
REQUESTS FROM LEVIN. MAINTENANCE SUBSIDY AND RACING PERMIT. A deputation comprising the Mayor and Borough Councillors waited upon the Prime Minister on his arrival at Levin, by the Napier express, to-day, to ask that representations be made to the Main Highways Board that it was necessary to continue the maintenance subsidy which had been paid for the last two years and which had ceased. It was 'also asked that a permit bo granted for an extra day’s racing. The Prime Minister promised to bring thesa two matters under the notice of the Minister of Public YVorks and Minister for Internal Affairs. SOUTH ISLAND Y'ISIT PLANNED. (By Telegraph—Special to Standard.) YVELLINGTON, March 1. Except for a brief trip to Christchurch for the inauguration of electric transit between Lyttelton and the city, the Prime Minister has not left Wellington since ho became head of the Government. He is leaving to-day for Napier, and will motor next day to Gisborne to unveil tho memorial to his okl colleague, the late Sir James Carroll. It is expected that Sir Joseph will return to YVe] lington on March 6 to i , and ho plans to leave soon afterwards to fill long awaited engagements in Southland where his friends are anxious to entertain him in celebration of his accession to power.
