FIRE BRIGADES.

JUBILEE DEMONSTRATION. Per Press Association. HOKITIKA, Feb. 28. The United Fire Brigades’ Association’s jubileo demonstration commenced • to-day. Results are as follow: Gilbert Memorial, one man coupling.—Final: Masterton, 55sec, six shield points, 1; Hawera, 66 2-ssec., five points, 2; Hillside Railway, 61sec, four points, 3; Oneliunga, 63 l-ssec, two points, 5; Rotorua, 64sec, one point, 6. Fifty-one competed. Two men, hose and standpipe event: Petone, 37 2-ssec, nine shield points, 1; Lower Hutt, 38 2-ssec, 8 points, 2; Taumarunui, 38 3-ssec, six points, and Otira Railway , four points, tied for third place; Hawera, 38 4-ssec, three points, 5; Waitara, 38 4-ssec, two points, 6. Sixty teams competed. Five men, hose, reel, and ladder event (modern): Hawera, 41 l-ssec., twenty shield points, 1; Addington Railway, sixteen points, and Te Kuiti, twelve points each, 45sec., tied for second place; Whangarei, 49sec., eight points, 4; Gore, 51sec., six points, 5; Devonport and Dargaville, 63 l-ssec. each, two points. Twenty-two teams competed. The four men, hose, and standpipe event was commenced, 16 of the 45 entries having been run. Hawera is leading with 43 2-ssec., Masterton is next with 46 4-ssec. The competitions will be continued to-morrow.
