CHANNEL TUNNEL.
BRITISH ATTITUDE,
(British Official Wireless). RUGBY, Jan. 15. It is expected that when Parliament reassembles the Government will make a statement regarding its attitude toward the construction of the tunnel under the English Channel. Before Parliament recently adjourned, a motion was put down by members of all parties, urging the Government to assent to the project. It is not likely that the Government will be able to spare time for a discussion of the motion, but it is anticipated that a statement by the Government will be made at question time. It is understood that views on the subject are being obtained on the one hand from the Committee of Imperial Defence, and on the other hand from the Board of Trade and the Ministry of Transport, the last-named two departments preparing data regarding the cross-Channel traffic, the effect of the tunnel on railway prices, and similar matters. It is believed, however, that the opinion of the naval and ministry experts will be found to be still adverse.
