SWIMMERS CENSURED.
DUNEDIN MEN OVER DARING.
ENDANGERING LIFE SAVERS
DUNEDIN, Jan. 9. Strong comment was voiced at a meeting of the Otago Swimming Centre by the president (Mr Mclndoe) with reference to the action of two swimmers who endeavoured to swim from St. Clair Beach to the Caves on The two swimmers, G. Collett and J. Vallis, the president said, left St. Clair Beach with the avowed intention ot swimming to the caves. That these swimmers were foolish went witnoil saving, but what was more important was that they ventured out so Jar that had they got into serious difficulties and needed aid the lives of members or the life saving team (who were ready and willing to attempt the task or rescuing them) would also have been placed in more than ordinary danger. Life savers, said Mr Mclndoe, were carrying out work of great public benefit, and were ever on the lookout for bathers in trouble, but when people from bravado or a desire for notoriety deliberately risked their own lives and bv their action possibly tho lives of life savers then a protest should be made in no uncertain terms. He moved: “That the centre censure the two swimmers.” The motion was carried. '
