HAWKE CUP MATCH,
CHALLENGERS FROM HAWKE’S
Manawatu, who wrested possession of the Hawke Cup from Wanganui last season, were to have faced their first challenge for the present season a fortnight ago, but indifferent weather conditions prevented the match with Rangitikei being played. However, Wednesday will find the holders facing Hawke’s Bay, an even more dangerous opposing. force, and a keen fight for the laurels is fully expected. With the present weather continuing, the wicket at the Sportsground should be fast and true on the day and it would not be surprising to find good scoring totals returned. Quite a number oi the local representatives had the benefit of an outing at Feilding against strange bowling on Saturday, while further practice will be acquired in the game versus Wellington University which opened to-day and which will be concluded to-morrow. . The team which will take the field against Hawke’s Bay is as follows, the actual eleven including only two outside players in Baumber, of Horowhenua, and Wild, of Feilding:—Ongley (captain), McVicar, Gallichan, Norris, Pegden (Palmerston), Diedench, Young, Pacey (Old Boys), Tarant (R.S.A.), Baumber (Horowhenua), and Wild (Feilding). Emergencies: Cutler and Fletcher (High School). Leet (Palmerston) and McHaffie (High School) were not available for selection.
