BOXING.
McALISTER AND GRIFFITHS. What promises to bo 15 rounds of excitement will be provided on Boxing Night, when Billy McAlister will meet Tommy Griffiths in the Opera House for a £l5O purse. Both boxers are in the pink of condition, tho bout will be at a fast clip throughout, and enthusiasts will witness a willing mill. Five amateur bouts have been arranged and the choice ocould hardly be bettered. M. Candy (Palmer--Bton North) meets W. Drinkwater (Palmerston North), H. Thomas, (Wellington) meets R. Forbes (Rongotea), Cubitt (Wellington) meets A. Candy (Pahnerston N.), 'E. Downes meets Brookie (Wellington) and Cyril Hurne amateur bantam-weight champion of New Zealand, is matched with Ted Oxloy, the crack Pahiatua. fea-ther-weight. • ... McAlister'a record is something to be proud of and "the praise he has received from boxing writers has been fully deserved, lie has fought many good men, often conceding a fair amount of weight and yet has lost only nine out of 65 bouts. His foot work is pretty and he packs a solid right and left, quite a number of his fights being won by the knock-out route. Griffiths has been stated to be tho second best feather-weight in- the Dominion and combines pace with solid ringcraft. He has a punch and can use it with effect as he nas demonstrated on more than one occasion. The matching of the two men will probably provide the best fight seen in Palmerston North for a considerable time past, despite the number of good men who have met here, and no doubt the Opera Houso will be packed to the doors. Booking is very heavy and immediate reservations should be made.
