BUS STAND QUESTION. LEFT IN ABEYANCE. For the third successive occasion, tlio matter of the carriers’ rural and municipal bus stands was dealt with at a meeting of tho Borough Council last evening, and no definite decision arrived at, the controversy remaining unsettled. The council resolved, in terms of the recommendation of the works and town planning committee, to which the matter had been referred for further consideration, that, with reference to the transit-committee’s report- of November 15, all previous resolutions concerning the removal of the carriers’, and the rural and municipal bus stands bo left in abeyance. The report mentioned suggested that a new stand for municipaibuses he appointed on the southern and the eastern sido of the Maori enclosure, opposite the new library building; that the rural buses be allowed to use the stand and shelter now occupied by the municipal buses; that a new parking area be appointed on the northern sido of the lakelet enclosure; and that provision be made for new shelters and conveniences. “How long is this matter to remain in abeyance?” asked Cr. Tremaine. The Mayor: I suggest that we leave it to the incoming council. “It is ridiculous to have half a dozen carriers where they are at present,” commented Cr. Mansford. “There is no reason why they should not be moved across the Square. They are occupying a stand which could be used for private cars.” The Mayor added that the matter was merely being left in abeyance and that the resolutions had not been rescinded.
