CRICKET CONTROL
HAWKE CUP MATCHES. Tho Manawatu Cricket Association met last evening, Mr W. Miller presiding. Others present wore Messrs A. M. Ongley, F. Carlisle, W. Kells, N. Gallichan, H.von Stunner and P. 0. Skoglund. Representative fixtures were discussed, and the first challenge by Rangitikei for tho Hawke Cup was set down for decision on December 12 and 13, which dates have been approved by the New Zealand Cricket Council.
A telegraphic challenge for the Hawke Cup was received from the Hawke’s Bay Cricket Association, and this will be considered by the New Zealand Council in due course. MATCH WITH HOItOWHENUA.
The Horowhenua Association confirmed December 5 as tho dato for a match provided it was played at Levin and that they had two additional matches later in the season. The dates suggested were as follow :—At Levin on January 26, 1929; at Palmerston North on March 10, 1929. It was decided that two Saturdays were out of the question and to suggest to Horowhenua that that association play the first match at Palmerston North on Anniversary Day and leave the date of the second match at Levin tp bo fixed later.
The following will represent Manawatu against Horowhenua at Levin tomorrow :—Ongley, Pegden, Ingham (Palmerston), Day, Duffield, Upham (R.S.A.), D. Spring (High School), Black, Lusk, Pacey, L. Spring (Old Boys); reserve, McNeil (R.S.A.) Mr Ongley notified that N. Gallichan and W. Noiris had been selected to play for the Country team against Wellington on December 7 and 8. Mr Skoglund advised that High School seniors would not be available for Saturday, December 15, as they were playing Napier High School on December 15 and 17.
The Wellington Institute Old Boys’ Club asked for a friendly match with Manawatu for Good Friday and Easter Saturday. Its team w'ould include such players as Dempster, Foley, Henderson and B. Massey. It was decided to accept the match provided id not clash with any Hawke Cup fixture. GAMES FOR SATURDAY.
Senior games were an'anged for next Saturday as follow: Senior.—High School v. Old Boys, No. 1 Sportsground; R.S.A. v. Palmerston North, No. 2 Sportsground. Junior.—High School v. Old Boys at Terrace End; llongotea v. All Saints; P. and T. v. R.S.A., at Sportsground; Public Works, a bye. Third Grade.—Albion A v. P. and T.; Phoenix v. Albion B; Kia Oro v. Gordon.
Ground fees for the season were fixed as follow: Senior, £8 14s; junior, £4 6s; third, £2 10s. The transfer of T. Amadio from Feilding senior to Rongotea junior was approved. , , , The Public Works Cricket Club asked if it would be possible for them to have a room in the pavilion and asked for terms. They also applied for a room at Terrace End. Tho latter request was granted. . . ~ The town clerk advised that the Borough Council had been unable to grant tho association’s request to be allowed to make and dispense afternoon tea as it had already given the proprietor of the tea kiosk that right for the season. It was decided to ask the Borough Council to further review the question for next season. A suggestion that season tickets be printed and sold at 10s 6d to enthusiasts was considered and a decision left over to a future meeting.
