MUNICIPAL GOLF LINKS.
(To the Editor.). Sir, —Now that the hubbub of the election is over, may I ask our Borough Council and our citizens in general to consider another thing. In this borough we, the residents, are justly proud of our reserves, and those portions of them that are used for various 'games. Cricket, football, tennis, bowls, croquet are all catered for, and the grounds are well patronised and apprecited. But there is one sport that is being sadly neglected, viz., golf. There are numbers of residents, both young and old who would play, but we havo no links save those of the local club, and that club is practically full up. So why not a local municipal links? There is the old racecourse at Awapuni that could be laid out and a small charge made for a round would easily cover all upkeep and more. There would be no lack of local support and visitors would also find their way there from the motor camp. It would be an added attraction to the borough, and I for one have no doubt that the attendance would cover the cost of upkeep. Other towns have their municipal golf, why not Palmerston North? It is a sport that all can take jpart in, old and young, male and female, and with a municipal course the cost to the players would be quite low. Of its popularity I do not think there is any question. Now, may I suggest that some of our local leaders get together and work thus out. It is a non-conten-tious subject, and it is more than likely that the local club would do all in its power to assist and advise in the matter. —I am, etc.,
