SPRING SHOW

RONGOTEA HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY. SPLENDID EXHIBITION. The annual spring show of the Rongotea and District Horticultural and General Product Society was held yesterday and wa3 attended with marked success. Cut blooms, in a wide variety, made a splendid showing, as did the rose sections. Owing to the recent inclement weather, entries of sweet peas were few in number while the vegetable section was not quite up to expectations. ..Although entries wero small in some of the classes, the standard throughout was high. The champion rose, an ‘‘Earl Haig,” was shown by Mr J. C. Glover. In opening the show, Mr J. Linklater, M.P., thanked the society for its invitation. It was indeed a pleasure co come to Itongotea, especially to the shows, which were enthusiastically assisted by the society’s members, said the speaker, who hoped that the show would be the success of its forerunners and tli,at it would continue to prosper. Such shows wero of great educational value in creating in the minds of the young an appreciation of beauty Mr Linklater then returned thanks to the local residents for having assisted to return him to Parliament. Many good men, who had done .a great deal for the country, had gone down in the political fight, but if there had to bo another election, those men might regain their seats. However, it had been the wish of the people to change the Governihent and the paramount consideration should be the welfare of New Zealand. The following trophies were then presented by Mr Linklater:—Society’s Challenge Bowl Mr Yorrall; Gust Cup, Mr J. C. Glover. This trophy was won outright and was re-presenterl for competition next year. The society’s trophy for sweet peas was won outright bv Mrs H. Ransom. Results of the judging are as follow : CUT BLOOMS.
