EXCITING CHASE.

PRISONERS ATTEMPT ESCAPE SHOTS FIRED AT PENTRIDGE. Received November 20, 9.5 a.m. MELBOURNE, Nov. 20. Four shots were fired at a prisoner, J. Bailey, who attempted to escape from the Pentridge Gaol. Bailey was captured after an exciting chase. The prisoner cut through the bars of the window with a hacK saw, which had been secreted in the cell. The warders heard a noise and the alarm \vas raised. Another prisoner, Leonard Cowley, tried to climb the prison wall. He was nearing the top when he fell and broke a bone in a foot.
