SAVIMMING AND TENNIS. Preparations for summer sports were discussed at meetings of two of the Y.M.C.A. Club this week. The annual meeting of the Swimming Club was held last night, Mr C. AA’oods presiding. It was decided that life-saving classes, commencing on November 19, meet on Monday and Thursday evenings of each week, swimming practice to take place at the Central School baths on those nights. The date of the annual carnival was left to the decision of the executive. Fees for tho season were fixed at 3s 6d for seniors and 2s lor juniors. Six new members were elected. The club’s colours are to be blue and red, witn the Y.M.C.A. badge. Officers were elected as follow: Club captain, Mr G. Young; vice-cap-tain, Mr K. Robinson; hon. secretary, Mr 11. Haddon; committee, Messrs C. McMinn, J. Griggs, T. Twigge; hon. instructor, Mr T. Twigge; luuidicappers and delegates to Manawatu Swimming Centre, Messrs G. Young and R. Haddon.
The Tennis Club met on Monday evening, about 20 members being "present. Mr C. AVoods was in tho chair. It was decided to hold the usual ladder games and the competition for the Wallace Cup, which was won by Mr J. Griggs last year. Twenty new members were elected and the opening day was fixed for November 28. "As the courts needed repairing a working committee was formed. Officers were elected as follow: Club captain, Mr R. McMinn; vice-captain, Mr R. Haddon; executive, Misses Hodgson and M. Brownhill, Messrs C. McMinn, J. Griggs, J. Dempsy, I. Rickard and R. Haddon; hon. secretary, Mr C. Rumble ; handicappers, Miss M. Hodgson and Mr 0. McMinn.
