MANAWATU ASSOCIATION. A meeting of tho Management committee of the Manawatu Cricket Association was held last evening when there were presents Messrs W. G. Miller (in the chair), A. M. Ongloy, Forde Carlisle, H. Von Sturmer, G. J. Kells and C. Brow (secretary). The Feilding Association wroto requesting that tho annual match with Manawatu bo sot down at an earlier date than usual, preferably before Christmas. —It was considered that, in view of the Hawke Cup games ahead, it was advisable that tho club games bo played so far as was possible without interruption, and It was accordingly decidod to ask the writers to suggest a dato, preferably a. Wednesday. The Horowhonua Association wroto seeking a date for a match with Manawatu, preferably a Saturday.—A- reply i'n the 6ame terms as that forwarded the Feilding Association was decided upon. Tho Borough Council advised that tho association. had been granted the use of the Sportsground and Terraco End Park for the season at a rental of £SO, such amount to cover the cost of the preparation of tho wicket. —Received.
The Wellington Cricket Association wroto inviting suggestions for tho betterment of the annual Town v. Country match which had ontailed a monetary loss last year and which had created little interest from the point of view of players.—Mr Ongloy moved, and Mr Carlisle seconded, that an endeavour should be made to have the matches continued, such being a great incentive to players dosiring inclusion in tho Wellington Plunket Shield games, but ■to request that the fixture be set down for decision in the first 10 days of December. The motion was carried unanimously.
A lengthy circular letter was received from the New Zealand Cricket Council concerning the rules governing tho playing of professionals in Plunket Shield matches. Objection had been raised, it was explained, to Wellington playing both Badcock and Taylor, tho lntter being engaged by tho Nelson Association. The Wellington Association also wrote forwarding their opinion o’n the matter. —It was tho opinion of members that the interpretation of tho rules by the Wellington Association was correct in that they could play any number of professionals in Plunket Shield matches subject to their having the necessary residential qualification and one professional who did not possess the residential qualification. Messrs W. Pegden and T. R. Hodder, who had been appointed vice-presidents at tho annual meeting, wroto accepting office and forwarding donations to tho funds. Mr W. L. Fitzhorbert also wrote accepting office in the same capacity and offering his wholehearted support. —A vote of thanks was extended tho writers. WICKETS AT SPORTSGROUND. Late entries were received from tho P. and T. and Public Works Clubs, each entering a team in the junior series, while the former also entered a third grade team. Tho secretary mentioned that there was a possibility of the Public Works entering two junior elevens in which case tho bye would be obviated. However, a definito reply had not yet been received. It was consequently decided not to rc-draw the fixtures in tho meantime, but to match P. and T. and PAV.D. on the opening day. With the admission of tho two additional teams, eight wicke.s per Saturday would bo required and the question of arranging the pitches was discussed. It was decided to apply for two wickets on the oval ajid three on the outer area at the Sportsground and two at Terrace End, and other two matches being set down for the High School grounds. SOCIAL ACTIVITIES. The supplying of afternoon tea bv senior teams in turn was mootod, the chairman suggesting that, subject to the neoessary permission being secured from tho borough authorities, the system be adopted, tho association to supply tea, sugar and biscuits and the lady supporters to furnish milk and sandiches. Mr Ongley supported the suggestion and it was decided to endeavour to bring it into effect, Messrs Carlisle,. Von Sturmer and Kells being set up as a sub-committee to further the scheme. ' : - '...' In response to a query, the chairman stated that junior playors would be entitled to participate, conditionally on the necessary paymentbeing made. , ' ■ GENERAL. • Mr A. M.. Ongley was re-appointed sole selector of the Manawatu representative team for the season. It was decided to request junior clubs to forward to tho secretary the names of players or others eligible to act on the junior selection committee. The secretary was instructed to forward to club secretaries a copy of tho rules relative to the hours of play and to advise that the association purposed enforcing the rule governing starting time. The re-drawihg of the fixtures in tho third grade resulted as follows, one round having been partially completed:—Second round: Albion Av. Kia Ora, Phoenix v. Gordon; Albion B. v. P. and T. Third round: Alibon AV. Gordon; P. and T. v. Phoenix; Albion B v. Kia Ora. Fourth round: Albion Av. Albion B, P. and T. v. Gordon, Phoenix v. Kia Ora. Fifth round: Albion Av. P. and T., Phoenix v. Albion B, Kia Ora v. Gordon. Sixth round: Albion Av. Phoenix, Kia Ora v. P. and T., Gordon v. Albion B.
