It' is officially stated that twelve railway bridges have been -washed away in Madras province. The floods are now subsiding, and food for those marooned in a mail train, including many passengers, at Tuna, has been conveyed by boat. The town of, Coconada is isolated. Rain fell in Karachi to-day for the first time for fourteen months, and averted a serious water famine. It had been the longest drought in twenty years. TERRIBLE PRIVATIONS. (Australian Press Association. —United Service.) DELHI, Oct.. 27. The havoc caused by floods in the east Godaverid istrict, on the Madras coast, was related by the villagers rescued after having ■ been marooned for nearly a ‘week. There were terrible, privations and many people were drowned as well as hundreds of cattle and goats. Five hundred houses were washed away. The inhabitants of Samalkot have lived since Monday on the roofs of houses and in trees. It is impossible to supply food or effect a rescue owing to the powerful current.
