ORGAN RECITAL.

IX ST. PAUL’S CHUItCH. St. Paul’s Methodist Church was packed to the doors last evening when a feast of organ music was provided to an appreciative audience. The organist was Mr H. Temple White, of Wellington, one of tile best masters of his instrument in the Dominion. Mr White is conductor of the Wellington Harmonic Society, conductor of the Wellington Commercial Travellers’ Choir, and organist of the Taranaki Streei Methodist Church, and the renderings given last night amply justified his reputation. A varied selection of sacred and classical music was given, the items being well balanced and representative of many famous composers. “By the Sea” (Schubert), ’’Spring Song” (Hollins), and the concluding number, Lemmens’ “Triumphal March,” were especially enjoyable, but this remark must really be applied to all the renderings. Two well-known vocalists, Miss Naomi Whalley and Mr W. B. Tennent, lent their talent to augment that of the instrumentalist, and gave excellent interpretations of suitable pieces. It was only owing to the fact that encores were not permitted that the performers were not called upon for further numbers. During tho course of tho evening Rev. J. E. Parsons extended, on behalf of the office-bearers and members of the congregation, a brief welcome to Mr White and to Mr Tennent and Miss Whalley, and thanked them for their assistance. Tho programme they had listened to, said Mr Parsons, was one that provided a treat not only for members of the Methodist Church, but for all music lovers in Palmerston North. He especially wished to thank Mr White for coming up from Wellington. The programme given was “Prelude and Fugue in C Minor” (Bach); “By the Sea” (Schubert); “Scherzo in A. Minor” (Faulkes); solo, Miss Naomi Whalley, “Jerusalem, Thou That Kill est the Prophets” (Mendelssohn); “Death of Ase,” (Greig); “Romanza” and “Allegretto” (Wolstenholme); solo Mr W. B. Tennent, “It is Enough” (Mendelssohn); “Revo d’Amour” (Felix Corbett) ; “Chorus of Angels” (Scotson Clark); “Pastorale and Allegro” (Plumpton); solo, Miss Naomi Whalley “Hear Ye Israel” (Mendelssohn) ; “Spring Song” (Hollins) ; “Idylle” (Elgar); solo, Mr W. B. Tennent, “The Legend” (Tschaikowsky) ; “Evensong” (East-hope Martin) ; “Triumphal March” (Lemmons). National Anthem, During the evening a collection was taken up on behalf of the new Sunday School building fund.
