SUBSTANTIAL FEE EARNED
Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Sept. 6. Seated in the front row of a crowded public gallery, Robert Gunter smiling and well-dressed, heard the City Council debate to-night on the report supplied by him to the tramways department, which, fortified tilth imposing credentials, earned him a tee of £125. Since his deportation from Australia, Gunter has resided in AucKland. The chairman of the tramways co - mitteo of the council candidly a - mitted that a clever criminal had imposed upon the council. ~ During the debate, the audience applauded, the Mayor threatening to clear the gallery. ... • The chairman of the committee said that until Gunter left Auckland Australia, the department had no r - son to believe he was otherwise he appeared to ho. Subsequen 5V cablegram was sent to London al l v , reply stated ho was an impostor. Gunter was appointed to make the report, he claimed to have been ompbved as engineer by the Eondo General Omnibus Company. A s a matter of fact, he actually made sug gestions which wero quite sound US A U resolution was passed that the explanation he accepted and the inci dent was declared closed.
