ELTHAM, Sept. 7. At a round-table conference at Rabcitu last night, when Mr W. C. Green, the Liberal candidate for Egmont, and Mr C. A. Wilkinson, the independent candidate for tlie same seat, were present, Mr Green voluntarily retired from the contest in favour of Mr Wilkinson. This will mean a straight-out. contest between the sitting member, Hon. 0. J. Hawken and Mr Wilkinson.
OTAGO CENTRAL SEAT.

DUNEDIN, Sept. 7. Tiro definite retirement, on his doctor’s advice, of Air Horn, member for Otago Central, leaves three candidates, Air J. Richie is the official Reform nominee, Mr John Bennett will probably stand as Independent Reform and Mr" W. A. Bodkin has ben, approached to contest the seat as a Liberal.
