LOS ANGELES CRIME.
HICKMAN SENSATION RECALLED. APPORTIONMENT OF REW r ARD. ■ _ (United Service.) Received September G, 10.30 a.m. LOS ANGELES, Sept. 5. During the height of the Hickman excitement—a youth named William Hickman murdered a young girl named Marion Parker—daughter of a Los Angeles hanker—Los Angeles wont wild in offering rewards for liis apprehension. When finally boiled down, the actual fund amounted to £5500. So many jmoplo contributed towards bringing Hickman to justice that the apportioning of the reward became a difficult task. The final solution was that a committee of business men took charge and secured agreements from everyone concerned that they would abido by tho decision reached. Tho committee then announced the awards. The two policemen who actually arrested Hickman get £IOOO each. A haberdasher who sold Hickman a hat and recognised the number on one of Mr Parker’s twenty dollar bills gets £SOO.
A similar amount went to a gasoline sendee station operator who sold Hickman petrol and carefully watched the route he took in hie car.
