SHANNON NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent) SHANNON, Sept. 4. The superintendent (Air J. Curran) presided at the monthly meeting of the Fire Brigade on Alonday evening. Air E. Spencer forwarded a donation of £2 2s as a recognition of the brigade’s efforts at tho recent fire, thereby saving his adjoining property.—Received with thanks. Reelman E. Murray, who is leaving the district on account of his transfer to the Bank of New Zealand at Otaki, was presented with a handsome cigarette case, the superintendent eulogising the good work of Air Alurray as a member of the brigade. Air Hill reported that good progress was being made with the Fire Brigade station. It was resolved to open tho station on Ist October and invitations aro to be forwarded to Palmerston North, Foxton, Levin and Otaki Brigades to be represented. A social and dance is to be held later in the evening. Three now members were elected. Tho local school reopened to-day. Air J. Aim is confined to his bed and under medical attention.
Alessrs F. Alurray and E. Crawford, who aro leaving the district, were farewelled on Alonday by a largo number of their friends. The evening was devoted to dancing, during which the opportunity was taken to present the departing guests with tokens of esteem.
