(From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAKI, Sept. 3.

Two hockey matches of interest ’ were played at Otaki on Saturday, the Ramblers Club (Wellington) sending senior and junior teams. The visitors were met on arrival by Messrs Nicolson, Parker and . Ralph (members of the association) and entertained at lunch. The junior game resulted in a draw, no score, while Otaki won tho senior contest, 5-2. After the game the visitors were entertained at a dance and yesterday motored to various parts of the district. Messrs Ralph and Nicolson thanked the visitors for coming to Otaki, trusted that their stay had been enjoyable, and promised a return match in the course of a fortnight. Miss Shaw and Mr Simpson returned thanks for the hospitality extended and stated their stay had been most pleasant, and that flic team would look forward to the return match. Cheers were exchanged as the Wcllingtonians left for home. . A line iof lambs, bred by Dir Fred Davis, of Hcatlierlea, sold last week at £2 per head. A party of Otaki residents scaled Waiopchu yesterday, but encountered heavy weather. In places the track was nearly a foot deep with mud. Rain made matters worse. Dir J. Roper, of I’etone, has taken up his residence in Otaki. The rainfall in Otaki for August was 3.61 inches. The yltal statistics for the month were Births 8, marriages 2, deaths 3. • Dir W. H. Field, DI.P., has been detained in the South Island on account of the illness of Dlrs Field. The deatli has occurred of Dlrs Bagrie, mother to Constable Bagrie, of Levin, aged 71 years. Nurse Fitzpatrick, Native nurse, has left to take up her residence at Bulls. Mr C. Beauchamp, who lins been transferred to the Bank of New Zealand at Patea, was entertained on Saturday evening, and presented with a gold-mounted pen.
