(Australian Press Association.) PARIS, Sept. 3. The Australian champion cyclist, IT. Opperman, who registered a sensational performance in winning the 80l d’Or cycle racing trophy, is acclaimed by critics as the greatest all-round cyclist in tho world. He commenced at 11 o’clock oil Saturday niglit, but after six hours lie was eleven laps behind owing to breaking a chain and having punctures. Upon resuming, Opperman displayed phenomenal ability, and rkling furiously he completely demoralised the field and assumed the lead. Opperman then went after the record and succeeded in breaking that established by Oscar Egg over twenty-five years ago by 23 kilometres 135 metres (approximately 14 miles G3l yards). d lie field comprised first-class Continental riders.
