HOKITIKA COUNCIL

SIXTIETH ANNIVERSARY. Per Press Association. HOKITIKA, Aug, 25. The Hokitika Borough Council held a special meeting last evening to mark the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the constitution of the municipality under the Municipal Corporations Act. Mr G. A. Perry, the Mayoi;, presided, and all the councillors and a number of ex-councillors were present, including Mr W. A. Thompson, who was an active member of the council in tho early eighties. Mr T. E. Y. Seddon, M.P., was present by invitation. An apology for absence was received from Hon H. L. Michel, an ex-Mayor.

Several interesting speeches were made with reference to the past and the setting up of municipal government and the work of the early pioneers.
