The death occurred at Ballarat on August 11 of Mr A. E. White, who for some years was secretary to the Wellington Y.M.C.A. Mr K G. Collins, who has been pursuing his wireless studies in Sydney, has returned to his home in Amesbury Street, Palmerston North, for a short holiday. Celebrating his 80th birthday on Monday Mr W. J. Carden holds what is possibly a unique position in Christchurch in that ho still follows his business pursuits with all the keenness and efficiency of a young man. At the annual meeting of St. John’s Presbyterian Church, Wellington, last ni"ht, it was stated that Mr William Hopk'irk had reached his fiftieth T ear as an elder of the church. IMr Hopkirk holds the record as regards length of service as an office-bearer of the” church. News has been received that Mr.P. Belig, late manager of the Christchurch Press Company, who lias been indisposed through influenza, followed by a relapse, expects shortly to be about again. His illness did not prove to be as serious as reports made it appear to bo. At a meeting of the North Canterbury Hospital Board yesterday Dr. lan C. Macintyre, assistant superintendent at Cashmere Sanatorium, was appointed superintendent of tuberculosis institutions in succession to Dr. G. J. Blackmore, who has resigned. The »alary was fixed at £llOO.
