A PIONEER’S PASSING.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) BULLS, Aug. 21. Tho hand of death removed a wellknown pioneer lof Rangitikei last week m the person of Thomas Fraser Richardson, who had lived in the district for seventy years. Born at Wellington 77 years ago, ho came to Rangitikei with his parents, tho late Mr and Mrs J. T. Richardson, at tho age (of seven, the family settling at “Pukehou.” Lter on, his father took the farm known as “Sandridge.” For a time Mr T. F. Richardson held a position .with the late Mr Kibbles, at Ohnu, and ho married Miss Unaiki Wairaka Kcramihana, at Foxton. Mr Richardson then settled at Carnarvon, where ho managed tho Hiokianga estate for the late Thomas Fraser, subsequently moving on to Vvanganui, where lie managed tho Imlay estate, now known as Gonville and Castlcclifl'e. After a few years, lie returned to Rangitikei, settling at Matahiwi with his family, and ho lived there until his death. Tn Rangitikei he was closely associated with all branches of sport, and for 28 years was a member and committeeman of the Rangitikei Racing Club, his services being invaluable, and nis death leaving a gap that will be hard to fill. Similarly, ho did splendid service on the directorate of the Rangitikei Dairy Coy., Ltd. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, and at one time a sergeant in the Alfred Trolop of volunteers. He leaves a widow ; four sons (John, Thomas, Peter and William, all of Ohakea); and eight daughters (Mrs Geo. Ellery, Bulls; Mrs Coutt3, Auckland; Mrs M. Whipaihana, of Ohnu; Mrs Seymour, Ohnu; Mrs J. McDermott, Bulls; and Misses Polly, Victoria and Myra Richardson. all of Ohakea). There are ako many grand and great-grand children. Tho funeral, which took place at the Fraser private burial ground, Parewanui, was one of the largest scon in the district, and showed the respect with which the deceased gentleman was held by all classes —not only of this district by by many who came from afar to pay their last respects at the cemetery. "The service was conducted by Rev. A. Stewart, and in the masonic ceremony which followed he was assisted by Bros. J. H. Perrett, K. Deighton and J. E. Walker.
