In a doubles\exhibition contest, Australia versus Canada, Hopman and Crawford (Australia) beat Ham and Nunns, 6—4, 6—2, 6—2. In a singles exhibition match, Hawkes (Australia) beat Wright, 6—l, 6—3 ; Crocker beat Patterson (Australia), 6—3, 9—7.
AMATEUR RANKS.
F. T. HUNTER’S BOMBSHELL.
(Australian Press Association.) NEAV YORK, Aug. 14. Francis T. Hunter threw a bombshell into mateur tennis ranks by stating that he would not play in the annual East-West matches at Forest Hills on Friday and Saturday unless W. T. Tilden was invited to play and accepted. It is reported that Tilden has not been invited to play in view of the difficulties of his standing and the fear that the association may be accused of using a “box office’’ player to increase its receipts, assuming that Tilden is suspended at the meeting on August 24.
