BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING. (Eiiom Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, Aug. 14. Tho usual monthly meeting o£ the Foxton Borough Council was held last night. The treasurer reported as follows: During July tho sum of £999 10s 8d was received. Tho ledger balances at July 31st were: Accounts at debit totalled 4.543 11s Id and were mado up as follows: Imprest cash £ls, gasworks £528 11s Id. The accounts at credit were: General £57 4s lid, fixed deposit £IOO, rate arrears £54 15s Bd, cemetery £69 9s' lid, drge. con. loan £B2 7s sd, Hospital Board £26 19s 4d, heavy traffic fees £45 14s 2d, interest £904 11s lOd, library £ll3 12s 2d, reserves £9 10s 4d, Town Hall £44 14s Id, Town Hall pictures £272 0s Id, workers’ dwelling £24 lls lOd, waterworks £566 5s lOd.—Adopted. Tho amount of gas manufactured during June was 386,100 feet, which, with the amount in the holder on June Ist, 15,009 feet, mado a total of 401,100 foot. During the month 328,800 feet was used by consumers, 20,000 feet at the works and there was 15,000 feet in the holdor on Juno 30th, making a total of 363,800 feet accounted for and leaving.37,3oo feet, representing 9.3 per cent, unaccounted for. The receipts for the month totalled £2OO 10s 9d and tho expenditure £206 6s 7d. —Adopted. Tho poundkeopor reported that, during tho month, 20 head of stock w’ere impounded and driving fees to tho amount lof 9s collected. It was decided that consumers of gas measured by slot meters bo charged according to the meter index at tho samo rate as ordinary meter consumers and that they be allowed the samo discounts. It was decided that during the summer months as many street corners as possible bo asphalted as time and finance will permit.

It was agreed to order 500 marcrocarpa trees to plant in the rubbish depot. It was decided to sell certain trees on tho cemetery reserve if possible and not to “top” them. The health officer enclosed a proposed revised by-law in connection with tho contamination of food during its manufacture and sale.—The Mayor expressed tho opinion that the collection lof license fees and tho imposing of same was getting a little “too strong.” The only thing that a license was not wanted for was to walk down tho street. It cost money tio revise ihc by-laws and ho thought the matter could bo held over until the council was making such a revision.—The letter was received.

Tho secretary .of tho District High School Committee wrote thanking tho council for a donation towards tho improvements to Ihakar-a Garden. —Received.

A letter was received from tho Justice Department stating that a survey of tho Courthouse section showed that the Town Hall was situated on portion of tho section. —It was pointed, out that an exchange iof portion of land was effected in 1881 when the Town Board was granted portion of the Courthouse section.

It was decided to ask tho Police Department to erect a light to indicate the police station at night Acctounls amounting to £999 13s 2d wero passed for payment. Cr. Lucinsky suggested that the council write tho Massey College authorities asking that experimental work in top-dress-ing be carried out on tho poorer land around Foxton. Improved land meant a dairy factory in tho town. Cr. Walker said the Department of Agriculture would test any sample of land forwarded to them and advise as to the best top-dressing to use. He had experienced good results from fowl manure.—The Mayor said that he had recently received plans and specifications for a dairy factory, but this would not be built until a guarantee of the farmers could be obtained. Ho would give any such suggestion his best assistance and he knew the matter would receive consideration at the Massey College.—lt was decided to write to tho collego on tho matter. On Saturday Foxton seniors met Shannon on tho local racecourso in a match for the Nash Cup. Several members of the local tenm were away and their places were filled by junior players. The game was a good hurd one, but ended in a victory for Shannon by 10 points tio 6. E. Robinson scored Foxton’s first try, but Huff failed with the kick. Thompson crossed for Foxton before half-time and tho spell ended: Foxton 6, Shanrson nil. In the second spell Shannon ran up their 10 points, although until the closing stages of the. game Foxton’s lead was not beaten. Tho visitors were fortunate in adding tho deciding scores just on the call of time. Mr P. McLeavey refereed.
