BOXING.

MANAWATU ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the Manawatu Boxing Association was held last evening, Mr Earle IVimsett presiding. Also present were Messrs F. B. Patterson, A. A. Woods, H. Essex, B. McGrath, W. F. Dudson, M. O’Brien, C. Clem, J. Purves and J. Evans (secretary). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs R. Mackie, H. Burrell and E. Scott. Mr J. Louisson, representing tho Now Zealand Boxing Council, was also present. Some discussion ensued in connection with tho next bout and the principals. It was finally decided to endeavour to match Harry Casey and Charlie Purdy on September 19, a condition being that Casey makes lOst 21b. The president and secretary said that it had been stated without their knowledge that tho fight would possibly take place on September 5. A discussion arose on it being reported that a rumour had gained currency that the association had taken over a liability of £270 from tho old executive. It was stated, however, tliat no debts wero taken over, but that tho old executive had handed over their entiro assots, including ring, canvas, buckets, gloves, towels, etc., valued at £4O. In addition, every possible support was given to tho now executive. In recognition of his long and most helpful membership, Mr W. Randell was unanimously elected a life member.

BLENHEIM, 4ug. 13. McDonald, lOst 111 b (Palmerston North) defeated Len Turner, list 21b. (Rai Valley), the Wellington Centro middle-light-iieavy champion, to-night, in a special bout at the Marlborough Association’s amateur tourney. It was a furious encounter, marred by a good deal of holding in the early rounds. The winner proved a clever boxer, showing superior ringer aft. He irefused to malte the contest open, which would have suited the Marlborough man. The judges disagreed after four rounds, and tho verdict in favour of McDonald met with a mixed reception, after an extra round had been fought.
