From Our Own Correspondent). j OTAIvL July 30. News was received Jiere on Sunday morning from Carterton that Mrs (Rev.) Liddell had passed away, after being in a private hospital for a few days only. Mrs Liddell, for some time, resided in Otaki and endeared herself to all, and when she left these parts for the AY airarapa sho was tho recipient of quite a number of valuable presentations. .Much sympathy is felt for Refr. Mr Liddell, tho Misses Liddell (2), and Master Ralph Liddell. After being in hospital for three weeks, due to a motor-car accident, Mrs AY. F. Fagan, aged 85 years, passed away on Sunday evening. The deceased, who was born in Tasmania, had lived for the past 13 years in Otaki. She possessed a quiet and' unassuming nature. A family of eight, all grown-up, aro left to mourn their loss. , _ , , Nujse Sell has left for the South Island on account of the serious illness of her mother. , A car, tho property of Mrs Shaw, of Otaki Railway, was taken on Sunday night and later found in a damaged condition. Miss Shaw, acting the part of tho Good Samaritan, drove a party to their homes at the Gorge, but in returning ran foul of a boggy creek twvci stuck fast. Sho walked three miles for assistance, and on her return found the car gone. Another long tramp took Miss Shaw to the residence of Mr Blackburn, who motored her home. When within two miles of Otaki tho car was sighted, having come to rest against a post. The question now is: AY ho took the car ? The police are investigating. Tho annual meeting of the Otaki branch of- the British and Foreign Bible Society was held on Friday when Mrs Porter, oorganising secretary, gave a fine address. Mrs AVills was re-olocted president, and Mcsdames Swaby, Moir, Spencer, Davidson and Miss Leo as vice-presidents. Mesdamee Batchelar and Fcatherstone, of AVellington, accompanied by their sister, Mrs J. AVilson left for AY T ellinglon to-dav, the latter taking with her her little daughter for X-ray purposes, she lining injured in a recent motor-car accident. Miss Paulino Meikle, late of Manakau, is to bo married to Mr Thomas G. Hook next month. Mr and Mrs Miekle, who have been residing in Porirua, leave for Alcaroa next month, the former having been appointed headmaster to tho District High School there. Mr 3 Arthur Freeman, of Otaki, is at present visiting relatives in AYanganui. The Druids, on Friday night, defeated the Fire Brigade at cuchro by 33 games to 27. The latter have now arranged to play the Oddfellows. Tho racehorse Majoram has been shipped to the South Island, Mr Findlay, tjie owner, having decided to reside there.
