Many members of Parliament and the Dominion High Commissioner today visited the Howden aerodrome, in Yorkshire, and viewed the British aiuship RIOO. The airship is .as largo as an Atlantic liner and is fitted with widecarpeted staircases, dining rooms and a lounge furnished like an hotel. The six Rolls-Royce-Condor engines were given a prolonged test yesterday and to-day, and when other trials have been passed the airship will emerge from its huge hangar and fly to the Cardington Air Station, where it will be attached to a specialy-erected mooring mast. Probably in the autumn RIOO will fly to Canada, when it is expected that Captain Scott, who has flown the Atlantic each way by airship, will command. SLOTTED WING DEVICE. CONTROL AT LOW SPEED. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, July 4. One hundred and eight machines of the Royal Air Force have now been fitted with a device known as the slotted wing. The contracts for fitting 478 machines are in hand, and an additional 47 sets have been despatched for the fitting of aeroplanes overseas. Forty further sets are awaiting shipment. The Air Minister, Sir Samuel Hoare, in giving this- information in the House of Commons to-day reminded the-House that while the slotted wings were most valuable in securing safety they were primarily designed to secure more effective control of aircraft at low speeds. STRIKE OF PILOTS. AIR SERVICES SUSPENDED. (United Service.) WARSAW, July 5. The air services between Warsaw, Dantzig, and Vienna are suspended as a result of the pilots and mechanics striking. The dispute is the outcome of the refusal of a claim for a 30 per cent increase in wages.
